An Armed Bride Will Not Be An Alarmed Bride

President Obama, ISIS, and Ebola…….

What do these three words have in common?

Not much except every time these words are brought up in Christian conversation, it strikes fear in the hearts of believers.

As news from Washington D.C., videos of beheadings in the U.S. and in the Middle East, and the recent first case of Ebola in Dallas, TX continue to be hot topics of interest and concern among Christians, I sense and feel deep rooted fear in every conversation I have with saints.

Recently and in prayer, it has reached the point where I really believe that the widespread fear among believers about what is happening in our world today is revealing three major areas of weakness in the Bride that must be addressed!

They are as follows:

1. The lack of biblical literacy

A great majority of the fear that is settling in on Christians today is revealing just how little we actually understand and have read what’s contained inside the Word of God. Isn’t it amazing that so many believers broadcast and explain what’s going on in today’s world as if it is catching God off guard? I recently told a pastor who was absolutely filled with fear and concern about the state of the world, “Brother, have you read Matthew 24 and 25 lately? When is the last time you have read the book of Revelation?”

He looked at me with great perplexity and then I whispered to him, “An armed bride will not be an alarmed bride. We have absolutely no reason to fear because the Word of God has already spoken about what is taking place now and in the future. Relax, renew your mind, and learn how to offer hope in the midst of destruction.”

2. The lack of intimacy

Speaking of being alarmed, why are so many believers in the bride of Christ responding to world events exactly the same as unbelievers? BECAUSE THEY ARE FULL OF FEAR! When we look intently at Matthew 25:1-12 as Jesus is describing what the End Times will be like, we find 5 wise virgins and 5 foolish virgins. The wise virgins had gathered oil for their lamps and had them trimmed and ready for when the bridegroom came. They were not alarmed when He came nor were they terrified. Rather, it was the foolish virgins who did not have oil in their lamps and were alarmed and eventually rejected from the wedding feast.

The words of Jesus to conclude this parable are, “Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.” Remember, Jesus said be on ALERT, not be ALARMED! In other words, those who arm themselves with the oil of intimacy and consistently and constantly build and maintain relationship with the Lord Jesus will be the ones who will be on the alert in this hour, not alarmed and filled with fear!

The definition of ALERT is: fully aware and attentive; wide-awake.

The definition of ALARMED is: sudden fear and suspense caused by an awareness of danger.

Those who will be alert in this hour are those who are aware and attentive to the signs of the times, but choose not to fear and put their trust in Jesus. Those who are alarmed in this hour are those who are aware and attentive to the signs of the times and are overcome by fear and suspense.

Truth be told, I’ve still yet to meet a believer whose focus is intimacy with Jesus and staying alert that is full of fear and alarmed at world event’s today.

3. The lack of a prayer life

One of the greatest invitations that the Spirit of God is releasing to the bride of Christ right now is the call to get a prayer life. It’s in the place of prayer and sitting before Jesus Christ upon His throne that we learn as 2 Corinthians 10:5 to, “Take captive every thought and make it obedient to Christ.” Nothing that is taking place in the earth right now is a surprise to Jesus Christ nor is it catching Him off guard. We must keep our eyes upon Him who sits above the circle of the earth and not he who sits in the oval office.

I believe great peace and rest is available in the secret place and a majority of Christians that I find full of fear over today’s events are those who are not spending time in the place of intercession and prayer. Hebrews 3:1 says that “we are partakers of a heavenly calling”. In other words, we have been given the unique opportunity to sit in and listen to what Jesus is praying over America and come into agreement and partake of those prayers. There is so much tranquility available in that place. Intercession is the governing headquarters of the earth, not Washington D.C. Jesus establishes His kingdom upon the earth through intercession and its imperative that we have an ear to hear what He is praying!

A Prophecy

I want to prophesy to you today on October 1, 2014 that an armed bride of Christ, will NOT be an alarmed bride of Christ in the days ahead. There is an exposure taking place right now of several areas of weakness in our lives as believers so that we can respond in the appropriate manner. We must be on alert (fully aware of what’s going on, but not alarmed (filled with fear because we are aware). We must dive into the Word of God. We need to keep the oil of intimacy burning bright. And we need to get into the place of prayer and listen to the prayers of Jesus for America so that we can come into agreement with Him.

Jesus said in in John 16:33, “These things I have spoken to you, that IN ME you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Take heart today Christian, though we live in perilous times of great shaking and trouble, find peace in the Lord Jesus Christ, for He has conquered death and the grave. He forever lives to make intercession for you and I, (Hebrews 7:25) and His kingdom will be established upon the earth. Be armed because you are alert, but do not be alarmed says the Lord!
